Welcome to my Campaign

Why am I running to represent you on the Bellingham City Council?

Because Democracy is not a spectator sport.
When I got involved in the Sanders campaign a bit over a year ago, I knew I couldn't slow down after the election and let others take on all the work.

I want to add my voice, being the conduit from neighbors to Council of the conversations that form our community.

Over and over, these three situations are discussed as imperative to the Community.

We need homes, affordable ones.

Our community needs jobs

Healthy Environment

The City Council acts as our voice.
There isn't any current representation on the Council by a renter. 54% of Bellingham housing is renter occupied.

My family has rented our current home for 5+ years in the York neighborhood, but we were homeowners in Sudden Valley as well. I was a landlord in NYC, the land of rental controls. My ability to understand all points of view as it pertains to zoning is unique to the Council.

We've lived in Bellingham since 2004, moving here the day before our twins started Kindergarten at Larrabee, bringing our desire to build a medical practice together with our desire to raise our daughters in a progressive and dynamic smaller city. Now that they have graduated from Sehome, and are off to UW, I have more time to serve our community.

I had our twin daughters in the middle of medical school.  I needed focus, and systems in place to finish. Having a truly amazing husband who juggled just as much as I did was essential. Multi track focus handles many threads of life.

After the publication of my book, Gluten-Free Baking for Dummies, my work focused online to reach as many people as possible. My appreciation for communicating directly to the recipient without boundaries enhances my online educational work.

I teach
gluten-free classes at the Community Food Coop and Continuing Education for Social Media Marketing at Whatcom Community College.

Volunteer Service to the community:
As a small business owner, I provide care to a broad group of people in Bellingham, carrying a percentage of pro-bono cases.

  • Board member of the York neighborhood association, welcoming newcomers, actively preserving our historic neighborhood close to the downtown core.
  • Board member of the Bellingham Gluten Intolerance Group, and have been since 2012.
  • A Girl Scout leader of two troops for a total of eight years.
  • PTSA volunteer throughout our daughters' time in the public schools.
  • A volunteer and former board member at the Chuckanut Center,  I created their social media presence.
  • I am a Precinct Captain in the Democratic party, assisting with social issues, and online activation.
  • I manage an activist calendar of events in Whatcom County to keep those interested informed about the places to go and help.

Bottom Line ... I'm a communicator, collaborator and connector.
